Unter dem Dach der Beruflichen Oberschule Bayern (BOB) sind die Schularten
  • Fachoberschule (FOS) und
  • Berufsoberschule (BOS ) vereinigt.

English Version

Maximilian-Kolbe-Schule Neumarkt i.d.OPf. is a sixth-form college (college of further education), open to pupils above 16 years of age.
Pupils may opt for one of the following departments:
  • engineering studies
  • business studies
  • social studies
Actually, Mailman-Kolbe-Schule is two schools under one roof with different entrance requirements:
  1. If you have passed your GCSE exams, you may directly enter Fachoberschule (FOS). In this case, your courses will include acquiring some work experience in form 11. Remember, we are a vocational college after all.
  2. If you have already completed vocational training in the dual system before, Berufsoberschule (BOS) is the right choice for you.
We offer the following degrees:

(a)  After a 2-year course at FOS or 1 year at BOS: Fachhochschulreife, i.e. the entrance qualification for studying at a university of applied sciences (Fachhochschule). Graduates may study any subject offered there, regardless of the department they attended before.

(b)   After a 3-year course at FOS or 2 years at BOS: fachgebundene Hochschulreife, i.e. a subject-restricted higher education entrance qualification. It entitles graduates to go and start studying a subject within the frame of their department at a university.

(c)   Students qualifying for (b) who additionally are in good command of another foreign language besides English may acquire Allgemeine Hochschulreife, i.e. the general qualification of university entrance and may study any subject they wish without restrictions.

Maximilian-Kolbe-Schule is attended by approximately 1,000 pupils. 75 teachers help them with developing their personalities and skills. A considerable proportion of our staff look back on a professional career in the private sector prior to becoming teachers. Thus we can ensure that what we teach is in step with actual business practices.

Our school building was designed by two former alumni turned architects. It was opened in 1998 and had to be expanded twice since then due to rising pupil enrollment.

school name

In 1990, our school was awarded the name Maximilian-Kolbe-Schule by the Bavarian Ministry of Education.

Saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe OFM Conv (8 January 1894 – 14 August 1941) was a Polish Conventual Franciscan friar, who volunteered to die in place of a stranger in the Nazi German concentration camp of Auschwitz, located in German-occupied Poland during World War II.
In 1918, Kolbe was ordained a priest. During the Second World War, he provided shelter to refugees from Greater Poland, including 2,000 Jews whom he hid from Nazi persecution in his friary in Niepokalanów.

On 17 February 1941, he was arrested by the German Gestapo and imprisoned in the Pawiak prison. On May 28, he was transferred to Auschwitz as prisoner #16670.
At the end of July 1941, three prisoners disappeared from the camp, prompting the deputy camp commander to pick 10 men to be starved to death in an underground bunker in order to deter further escape attempts. When one of the selected men, Franciszek Gajowniczek, cried out, "My wife! My children!", Kolbe volunteered to take his place.
He was canonized on 10 October 1982 by Pope John Paul II, and declared a martyr of charity. He is the patron saint of drug addicts, political prisoners, families, journalists, prisoners, and the pro-life movement. Pope John Paul II declared him "The Patron Saint of Our Difficult Century".

be courageous - stop racism

Maximilian-Kolbe-Schule is part of a nationwide network of schools actively working against racism and all other forms of discrimination. Every year, we do projects on the topic. Project work in the school year of 2010/2011 included
  • inviting a former neo-Nazi activist giving a first-hand account of the interior life and structures of such gangs
  • hearing oral history as told by Mr Hans Rosengold about his fate as a Jewish Boy during the early years of the Nazi regime in the 1930s.
  • informing students about the dangers of cyberbullying. For further information visit http://old.digizen.org/cyberbullying/fullfilm.aspx
